What is Gor?
I have been asked many times by those that do not know, "What is Gor"? The problem is that it is hard to explain in just a few words. Sure, I can throw out things like "it's about freedom to be what you are naturally, honor, integrity, natural order" and many more words like that, but for someone that is still learning so much, it's rather difficult to explain it with the passion I have seen shown by many others that have lived it for years. I also think that as a woman who presents herself as a slave-to-be, my outlook may be different than that of a Free man or woman.
I have seen many conversations about whether or not a slave can be Gorean, and my response to it is that, as someone who is not yet a slave, but hopes to be, I think I should learn about the philosophy and might even consider myself as someone who follows the Gorean philosophy until such time that I am owned. My personal belief is that an owned slave cannot be a Gorean, for several reasons, one is because they are not free to choose to live by those ideals and customs. They have surrendered the freedom to choose how they live, thus, they cannot be Gorean. I do -not- think that the Gorean philosophy is about M/s, I think it can include a M/s relationship, but one does not need a slave to be called "Gorean". A slave however needs to serve in order to be a slave I believe. If the Free deny me to serve them or choose to -not- treat me as a slave, then how can I be one? The M/s aspect of it comes into play, I believe, because these strong men and woman, who live their lives by many of the Gorean philosophy attributes, attract women such as myself, that want to please and serve. The Gorean philosophy, the name rather, has came to life through the works of John Norman. I think there were probably men and women that lived that kind of life before the books were written, and the philosophy seems to contain a lot of aspects from other philosophies from centuries past. However, once John Norman put those things in print, and others started to read them, I believe he provided a wonderful opportunity for those of like minds to gather and discuss things under the title of "Gorean". I happen to be very grateful for that as "Goreans" are the type of men and women that I hope to associate with for the rest of my life. I humbly encourage anyone who wishes to learn more about the philosophy to buy the books first and foremost. They can be at found several places including, Pantheus Books, Amazon, orE-Bay. There are also several message boards available that have, in my opinion, a lot of good information. One such board is Just Another Gorean Board, and another is theGorean Public Board. There is also a monthly e-zine that I recommend called Gorean Voice. There are many other message boards available for online resources regarding the Gorean philosophy that are available under the links section of this website. I truly hope you enjoy these forums as I have. I wish you well, ancilla ![]() Home Gor My life Essays Self Examination Quotes Music Resources Credits Links Email Other Stuff
